Abstract

The research aimed to understand the conceptual metaphors used by indigenous artivists and researchers in characterizing the concept of Contemporary Indigenous Art. To this end, a discursive textual analysis was carried out, which sought to identify the use of the conceptual metaphors of container and trajectory in the verbal discourses. Based on the Conceptual Metaphor Theory, it was considered that the concept of Contemporary Indigenous Art, developed by Jaider Esbell, works as a positioning strategy between two systems: the Indigenous Art System and the Contemporary Art System. The study intends to support the organization of pedagogical interventions and its consequences involve investigating artistic concepts as weapons in the fight for legitimacy and authenticity in the artistic field.
