Abstract

This article presents findings on a case study of 6th grade students at a public school in Criciúma (SC) and aims at investigating a kind of duality: teachers demand children to be autonomous and organized, but they still ignore the necessary time for children to adapt to their new reality. The main objective of this research is to discover what are the problems faced by children as they enter their sixth grade at school. The feedback of the children interviewed indicates they miss affection, the ludic, and the imaginative dimension they had experienced up until their fifth year in school. Children know that their voices are ignored and silenced by new school rituals.
