PERFIL DE PACIENTES COM CANDIDÍASE VULVOVAGINAL

Abstract

Vulvovaginal candidiasis is a fungal infection and is one of the most common causes of vulvovaginal itching and discharge. Most cases of the disease are caused by the species Candida albicans, and cause great discomfort, impairing quality of life and sexual relations. It is estimated that 75% of women of childbearing age will be affected by this infection. The objective of this research was to analyze the clinical and epidemiological profile of patients with vulvovaginal candidiasis in an emergency care unit during the years 2018 to 2020, being a descriptive observational study with collection of secondary data from the medical records of 97 women among 20 to 50 years. The variables analyzed were age, marital status, symptoms, presence of chronic disease, use of continuous medication, use of contraceptive method, sexual partner, pregnancy, annual preventive medication and treatment. Thus, the profile of patients who present candidiasis in the emergency care unit are women with an average of 32.7 years old, mostly single (43.3%), non-pregnant (90.07%), healthy (83.5%), who do not use daily medication (61.9%), who have a steady sexual partner (80.4%), who 56.7% undergo preventive exams annually and 60.8% use a contraceptive method, presenting this as the most prevalent symptom leucorrhoea (72.2%). Therefore, it is necessary to know the predisposing factors of this pathology in order to avoid it, prioritizing women's quality of life.
