Abstract

Celiac disease (CD) is an autoimmune pathology resulting from the production of autoantibodies after exposure to gluten, with high morbidity and mortality in untreated patients. Therefore, it is extremely important to know the clinical-epidemiological profile of these patients for early diagnosis. This study was characterized by being descriptive observational with data collection from medical records of 170 celiac patients treated at a private clinic in the south of Santa Catarina from 2016 to 2022. Among the results, the average age was 31.45±11.10, with a higher prevalence in females (81.2%). The most prevalent body mass index (BMI) was normal weight (68.9%), followed by overweight (13.5%). A family history of CD was found in 16.8% of cases. Serological analysis demonstrated positivity in 74.9% and 54.5% of cases for anti-tTG and anti-endomysium antibodies, respectively. Gastrointestinal manifestations were present in 94.7% of patients, 41.1% of patients had extraintestinal manifestations. Thus, it is possible to conclude that the majority of celiac patients were female, eutrophic and with a significant family history. The most prevalent gastrointestinal manifestation was abdominal pain, while the extraintestinal manifestations with the highest rates were anemia, headache and fatigue.
