Abstract

The gestational period is a physiological condition that can interfere with food choices, cultural, family and medical beliefs and knowledge. Food and nutritional education, therefore, can be beneficial and has an important contribution to reducing complications prevalent during this period. In addition, the creation of national programs is presented as a strategy to reduce deadlocks in areas of vulnerability. In this sense, through a partnership between the UFPE Department of Nutrition and "Mãe Coruja Recife", workshops were promoted to disseminate knowledge about the importance of breastfeeding and healthy and safe eating for pregnant women and nursing mothers. The workshops, held at the Family Health Units "Skylab" and “Vila União”, were divided into three stages: dynamics on breastfeeding myths and truths; lecture on the benefits of breastfeeding; and exposure of the amount of sodium and sugar in processed products. It is prudent to point out that the experience was enriching, as it resulted in a reflection on the socioeconomic individuality of women, the need for accessibility for people with disabilities in health services, as well as the importance of humanizing health professionals. It is concluded that actions in Primary Care promote the dissemination of information to promote and maintain the well-being of the population, as well as supporting the training of professionals qualified to deal with the community.
