Abstract

This article aims to identify the influence of music education on cognitive development in early childhood, highlighting the connections between music and neuroscience, as well as its benefits for self-regulation and emotional aspects found in children. Studies show that early exposure to music modulates synaptic neuroplasticity, influencing learning and brain development. A systematic review was carried out of studies that identified degrees of influence on children's cognitive development from exposure to music education. The descriptors used were "Cognition", "Childhood", "Music", "Cognitive Development" and "Music Education". After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 12 scientific studies were selected for the review. It was concluded that the practice of music education is a successful and beneficial approach that affects brain areas related to cognitive, sensory-motor and socio-emotional processing, promoting the development of skills such as language, spatial reasoning, emotional and social intelligence.
